Clacton care centre Edensor will be opening its doors for a monthly pamper day for the elderly after its Dignity Action Day event proved a resounding success.

 

A team of volunteers at the Orwell Road home have agreed to give up their spare time on a regular basis to use their skills to provide a host of free treatments for elderly residents and members of the public to enjoy.

 

Aromatherapy, Reiki healing, nail treatments and foot spas will all be offered free of charge in the care centre’s new indoor sensory garden area, with refreshments laid on by Edensor’s chef Victor.

 

The idea came around following Edensor’s one-off event last week to mark Dignity Action Day, an annual opportunity for health and social care workers, and members of the public, to uphold people's rights to dignity and provide a truly memorable day for people who use care services.

 

The Orwell Road care centre, part of Diagrama Foundation - now plans to hold the event once a month.

 

Vikki Whale, training champion said: “For the first time this year we invited other care providers to come along and were delighted to be joined by lady who receives home care from Home Instead. We’ve invited the lady back to join us regularly after she told us the pamper day helped to relax and lift her spirits and gave her a sense of well being. We look forward to working with other local care providers in the future and would love to hear from anyone interested in coming along to our next pamper session.”

 

Residential manager Alison Brown said: “We are very lucky here to have such a brilliant team of volunteers and staff who are happy to give up their free time and make events like this a success. Promoting dignity within our home is something we take seriously and is embedded in our work throughout every minute of every day.  Our residents spend their time with us being treated with dignity and respect, safe from harm. This is something that is very close to our hearts and what makes Edensor such a special place to live.”
