The first and former Children’s Commissioner for England, Professor Sir Albert Aynsley-Green, and Jim Rose, who has a distinguished career in children’s services and is an authority on secure children’s homes, visited Pi Gros and Els Reiets Re-Educational Centres, managed by Diagrama Spain.

On the 30th and 31st of August, Professor Sir Albert Aynsley-Green and Jim Rose had the opportunity to visit two of Fundación Diagrama’s Centres, located in Castellón and Alicante, where they got to spend some time with the young people while they went about their daily activities, which include schooling, training, leisure time, meals, amongst others.

During the 2-day visit, Diagrama's UK guests were welcomed by Valencia County Council Staff from Diagrama Spain. On their first day they visited Pi Gros, and on their second day they visited Els Reiets.

Both Sir Al Aynsley-Green and Jim Rose were interested in the functioning of the centres: the educational project and integration programmes, the activities, workshops and training available, as well as the different aspects relevant to the day-to-day life of young people and staff.

Both guests were very impressed by the relationships between educators – staff working with young people at the Centres – and the young people, and pointed out that the centres provide a warm and welcoming environment where children and young people can feel safe and supported. They also commented how it is great to see that every single activity at the centres is aimed to prepare young person for their release into the community.
