Four residents at Cabrini House, Diagrama’s home for adults with learning disabilities, have been learning how to respond in a medical emergency when they took part in Mini Medics training.

The aim of the Mini Medics course is to help people understand the importance of staying calm in an emergency and helping those who are poorly or injured. Diagrama’s instructor Shane Newcombe spent the day at Cabrini House explaining some of the dangers to look out for and how to respond.

He also taught participants how to dress a wound, how to put someone in the recovery position and what to do in the event of someone suffering from a burn. The residents even had a chance to practise CPR on the resuscitation dummy.

The four residents practised on one another and will soon be receiving certificates to acknowledge their completion of the course.

This training has helped the residents to improve their confidence and understanding of how to deal with a medical emergency, as well as understanding the importance of staying safe around the home. Well done to everyone who took part.
