Our Patron
Lord Bird wants to change the lives of young people, especially those who have spent time in the justice system.
Lord Bird
In his commitment to changing the lives of young offenders for the better, our patron Lord Bird MBE visited four of Fundación Diagrama’s custodial centres to see firsthand the success of the Spanish system. He saw how a wholistic, community-centric approach to rehabilitating juveniles within the justice systems can turn around young lives, with 84% of youth at the charity’s custodial centres going on to not reoffend.
Lord Bird said: “Visiting the Diagrama detention centres in Spain was a real eye opener, what they are doing is very impressive. I had the opportunity to talk to young offenders and to those who are working with them and see the varied experiences that they are exposed to. We can learn so much from what is happening in Spain, and I had no hesitation in becoming a Diagrama Patron and will continue to lobby the government to replace our own faulty youth detention framework and investigate this exemplary blueprint.
