Residents in Cabrini House, Diagrama’s home for adults with learning disabilities, set off for a sunny week in Butlins at Bognor Regis recently.
Eight residents and four staff travelled down in Diagrama’s mini bus, taking in the sights along the way. They stopped off at the supermarket en route where everyone was supported with choosing their supplies for the apartments during their stay.
The residents enjoyed sampling a variety of different foods throughout their stay and were able to make their own choices at the buffet meals – which encouraged them to be independent as they made their selections by themselves.
They learnt about the town itself during a tour of the area and put their shopping skills to the test again when they bought some gifts for family and friends. They stopped off for a well deserved restful drink in a seafront pub afterwards.
One of the highlights of the trip for the residents was the on-site fun fair, offering a stimulating experience for all.
Residential manager Michelle Dyne joined the party midweek for a swimming outing, which gave residents the opportunity to take part in exercise whilst having plenty of fun – plenty of time was spent racing down the flumes and the slides.
After a well deserved rest and refresher the holiday crowd took a trip to the amusements arcade where they all used their co-ordination skills to try their best to win a cuddly toy.
Residents were entertained each evening by the in-house band and they all participated in the nightly disco.
On the final day, after a full English breakfast to fuel them for the day the group said a reluctant farewell to Butlins and took the scenic route home.
All Cabrini House residents are offered the chance to enjoy a holiday and regular outings. Cabrini House currently has vacant beds in its newly-renovated third property.
