Diagrama’s fostering and adoption service has launched a new blog to mark the start of National Adoption Week.

The aim of the blog is to share the experiences of Diagrama’s adopters, foster carers and staff as they embark on their own unique journey to help make a difference to the life of a vulnerable child or children in care.

Diagrama understands that adoptive parents and foster carers may face challenges at various times along the way and hopes that, by sharing bloggers’ experiences in overcoming their own challenges, it will provide support for others.

The blog will be regularly updated and will also include news from the service and updates on forthcoming fostering, adoption and support events. A series of posts will be featured throughout National Adoption week with a focus on this year’s theme #SupportAdoption.

There are, currently, around 70,000 looked after children in the UK, a number which has steadily increased over the last eight years. Around three quarters of those children are cared for in foster placements. Around 4,000 children are currently awaiting adoption.

In 2016, the number of looked after unaccompanied asylum seeking children increased by 54% compared to 2015 figures, taking the total up to 4,210 children at 31 March 2016 and making the need to find people who want to offer secure, loving homes more pressing than ever.
