Staff at Edensor, Diagrama's 48-bed care home for dementia and nursing care have been highly praised by the Care Quality Commission who rated the standard of care received by residents as ‘Outstanding’. The recent inspection, which saw the overall rating across five areas go from requires improvement to ‘Good' was upgraded in recognition of efforts made across the board to improve the service.

The inspector highlighted several areas for special commendation, including the staff training and the introduction of the Montessori approach to aged and dementia care which has helped the whole team to gain a greater understanding of how to implement person-centred care within every role.

The team was also praised for efforts to renovate the dining room to replicate a 1950s cafe – to encourage reminiscence and retain memories for residents with dementia. And for going the extra mile to support the needs of each resident and their family, especially with regard to end of life care. Diagrama's approach to collaborative working was complimented as were the extraordinary efforts made to make sure special occasions are as memorable as possible for people.

The inspection noted: “One relative would have been alone on Christmas day unable to get to the home. Staff arranged to pick them up in the morning and they were supported to stay at the home over Christmas and Boxing day with their loved one. They were provided with their own room which staff made homely and comfortable.”
