On June 1, Diagrama Foundation held its first Fostering Awards Day for children in foster care with Diagrama, birth children of foster carers and children under special guardianships orders.

The celebrations took place at Battersea Park Children’s Zoo in London, where the children were able to see and learn about the variety of animals that live there. After lunch in the zoo’s Top Cabin, the certificates and trophies were presented by Diagrama’s fostering manager Catherine Moore, and handed out by Diagrama Foundation CEO David McGuire.

The day aimed to celebrate the achievements and progress made by the children and young people since being in care. This is important for building self-esteem, encouraging and rewarding positive behaviour, and recognising talent.

It also provided an opportunity for everyone to come together for a fun family day out, for the foster cares to meet up with other foster carers, many of whom make up a big part of the support network within Diagrama.

It also gave the children a chance to meet other young people in care or with a good understanding of it, and to recognise and be recognised by their peers, as well as the important adults in their lives.

The awards were sponsored by United Safe Care security services.
