Essex care home Edensor recieves funding for specialists chairs

Colchester Catalyst funds two new specialist wheelchairs for Edensor

Edensor Care Centre has received two new specialist chairs to boost residents’ comfort and mobility, thanks to funding from Colchester Catalyst.

The equipment includes an Invacare Azalea Pro Tilt-in-Space wheelchair and a CareFlex MultiAdjust Advance chair. Both chairs are specially designed to provide greater support and comfort for people whose muscle strength, balance and ability to sit independently have declined.

Edensor's care home manager, Sabina Mach, said the impact would extend well beyond the physical benefits of improved mobility: "The chairs will make a real difference to the lives of our residents.

"Both chairs can be adjusted to change the angle of the seat, including into a lying position, which will make a significant difference to residents who find sitting difficult or uncomfortable, enabling them to spend more time out of bed while remaining properly supported. For someone who finds sitting uncomfortable or tiring, being able to adjust their position can be the difference between staying in their room and being able to join in with what is happening around them.

"Mobility is so important for wellbeing as we get older. These chairs will help residents spend time with other people, get out into the community and attend appointments in greater comfort.

"It is about giving people more opportunities to take part in life, rather than simply helping them get from A to B."

The grant is the latest support Edensor has received from Colchester Catalyst, which has previously helped the care home develop its sensory cabin and other facilities designed to improve residents' quality of life.

David McGuire, Diagrama Foundation's CEO, said: "We are enormously grateful to Colchester Catalyst for once again supporting Edensor and investing in the wellbeing of our residents. Their support has already helped us create facilities that make a real difference, and these specialist chairs will build on that work.

"For our residents, this is about far more than equipment. It is about comfort, dignity, independence and being able to participate in the life of the home and the wider community.

"We are very grateful to Colchester Catalyst for recognising how important that can be."

The specialist chairs will provide another important resource for residents, their families, staff and volunteers, helping more people to enjoy the full range of opportunities available at Edensor.
