Free Advanced Foster Care Training
The Diagrama Foundation is running a new pilot course – Advanced Foster Care Training – Managing Complex Behaviour - to provide specialised training for foster carers. Fully funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, the course aims to reduce the number of placement breakdowns – by upskilling foster carers to manage some of the complex challenges they may face. A Beckenham business has helped families connected with Diagrama Foundation’s Fostering and Adoption services celebrate the New Year with two children’s parties. The parties offer adoptive families the chance to get together, share experiences, support one another and build new friendships. For children within reach of London, a party was held at The Spa in Beckenham. Children played in the Buzz Zone soft play area, while the adults chatted and made supportive links. Children from Alton Park Junior School have joined friends and family of residents at Edensor Care Centre for a party to officially launch the Tovertafel ‘Magic table’, an interactive light device which has been transforming daily life for residents in a new trial. Staff at the Diagrama Foundation’s Orwell Road home, were offered the chance to pilot the new technology through the Essex Prosper Care scheme, in a bid to help reignite interest and social engagement for residents with dementia. Cabrini House has been rated Good by Care Quality Commission Inspectors
Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission have published their latest inspection carried out on House 1 in October and House 3 in January and we are delighted to say both houses have been rated GOOD in all areas. The inspection looks at different aspects of the service including safety, care, effectiveness, responsiveness and leadership. Residential manager Michelle Dyne said: “We are very proud of our service and of the hard work of our team and would like to thank all residents, staff and relatives who took part in the interviews with inspectors.” Read more...

Some of our intrepid artists at Cabrini House, Diagrama's home for adults with learning disabilities in Orpington, have been turning their hand to a new style of therapeutic drawing called Zentangle art. Zentangle is created with repetitive abstract patterns and is an easy and relaxing way for our residents to engage with art. The method involves creating tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, curves and orbs and is believed to have a positive influence on creativity, self-image, focus and problem solving. Diagrama Foundation Cabrini House staff and residents assemble furniture for the Montessori activities
Staff at Cabrini House have been discovering Montessori methods of education in an exciting new collaborative opportunity. Nati Beltran, a Montessori teacher, invited Cabrini House staff and residents to take part in a research project which aims to discover new ways of working to support residents to achieve their goals. FREE first aid training Diagrama Foundation
Foster carers, job seekers and volunteers are invited to become qualified first-aider for free, thanks to a grant awarded to Diagrama Foundation.   A limited number of fully-funded places are available on two courses - Emergency First Aid at Work and Paediatric Emergency First Aid - to be held in Maidstone next month and delivered by United Safe Care - Diagrama's first aid service.   Read more...

Residents and staff at Cabrini were very excited about spending five days together. It was the first time residents from different houses had enjoyed their holidays together and two different trips were organised - one at Butlins in Bognor Regis and the other at a beautiful holiday cottage in Edenbridge.   Read more...

Diagrama's foster care social worker Margaret Gardiner has contributed to an upcoming book "How we can become a less violent society", produced by the Monument Trust.
