Four residents at Cabrini House, Diagrama’s home for adults with learning disabilities, have been learning how to respond in a medical emergency when they took part in Mini Medics training.
The aim of the Mini Medics course is to help people understand the importance of staying calm in an emergency and helping those who are poorly or injured. Development and care staff, along with senior management at Cabrini House, have been successfully trained in the Diagrama-Montessori Principles and Practice of Person-Centred Enrichment Support.
The training was delivered by Nati Beltran – a Montessori teacher who has been collaborating with Diagrama on a research project to introduce this approach to development for adults with learning disabilities. Read more...

Residents at Cabrini House, Diagrama’s home for adults with learning disabilities in Orpington, have been developing new skills, as part of daily living activities and they have been working on their cooking and food preparation skills in the cooking workshop.
This workshop helps residents who choose to take part to develop their life skills and abilities and improve creativity and team working as they enjoy preparing food and learning new recipes. Read more...

We recently completed running the first of two pilot courses in Advanced Foster Care - Managing Complex Behaviour, which has been funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
The course took place over 6 weeks and aims to up-skill foster carers to prevent placement breakdowns.
The course was led by deputy fostering manager, Margaret Gardiner, and fostering and adoption manager Catherine Moore and covered topics such as brain development and the impact of being in care and more. Read more...

Diagrama’s CEO David McGuire recently surprised one of the residents at Cabrini House, Diagrama’s home for adults with learning disabilities in Orpington, when he presented him with a little piece of history.
Staff had uncovered old display boards which told the history of Cabrini House throughout the years, from its time under the ownership of Cabrini Children’s Society.
The boards contained several pictures of the resident and his friends, dating back several decades, when the first house opened. Read more...

Deal businessman Frank Chambers, 57, is taking part in his first swimathon in 17 years in a bid to raise £500 for the Diagrama Foundation.
Frank, whose business Inhalytic specialises in inhaler testing, set himself the 5k swim challenge after hearing about the work of Diagrama at a networking event.
Diagrama is currently transforming its home in Orpington to a Montessori-led environment and Frank hopes to raise funds for Diagrama to buy new equipment for the activity room. Read more...

The Diagrama Foundation is running a new pilot course – Advanced Foster Care Training – Managing Complex Behaviour - to provide specialised training for foster carers. Fully funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, the course aims to reduce the number of placement breakdowns – by upskilling foster carers to manage some of the complex challenges they may face. The six-week course will run during school-friendly hours, from 10am -2pm (registration from 9.30am) on March 4/5/11/18/25 and April 1.

A Beckenham business has helped families connected with Diagrama Foundation’s Fostering and Adoption services celebrate the New Year with two children’s parties. The parties offer adoptive families the chance to get together, share experiences, support one another and build new friendships. For children within reach of London, a party was held at The Spa in Beckenham. Children played in the Buzz Zone soft play area, while the adults chatted and made supportive links. Children from Alton Park Junior School have joined friends and family of residents at Edensor Care Centre for a party to officially launch the Tovertafel ‘Magic table’, an interactive light device which has been transforming daily life for residents in a new trial.
Staff at the Diagrama Foundation’s Orwell Road home, were offered the chance to pilot the new technology through the Essex Prosper Care scheme, in a bid to help reignite interest and social engagement for residents with dementia. Read more...

Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission have published their latest inspection carried out on House 1 in October and House 3 in January and we are delighted to say both houses have been rated GOOD in all areas.
The inspection looks at different aspects of the service including safety, care, effectiveness, responsiveness and leadership.
